U.S. Marshals Service to Rake in Millions from Silk Road Bitcoins


June 12, 2014—Approximately $17.8 million worth of bitcoin (30,000 bitcoins) seized by the U.S. Marshals Service in October 2013 is to be auctioned off to the public on June 27. Bids for the bitcoin, which came from the takedown of the now defunct online drug market Silk Road, must be in cash, according to USMS.
