NJ.com: ACLU Fights Back Against Police Militarization

July 31, 2014 – In a letter fromScreen-Shot-2014-08-12-at-6.18.05-AM-e1407849587684 the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, representatives requested the withdrawal of the Bergen County Sheriff Department’s order of two mine-resistant armored vehicles. The letter, addressed to Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino, the organization expressed concern about the risks involved with local law enforcement using military equipment in the community.

“‘While the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey recognizes the dangers inherent in modern policing, the streets of Bergen County are decidedly not within a war zone,’ the letter said.”
