Washington Post: WHO Official Calls for More Ebola Medicine

August 12, 2014 – The World Health Organization (WHO)Screen-Shot-2014-08-12-at-6.29.35-AM-e1407850360670 announced Tuesday that the death toll of those who had contracted Ebola in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria had exceeded 1,000. With that announcement, a WHO official expressed hope to accelerate the development of experimental treatments that could bring more medicine to those with Ebola by the end of 2014.

From the report:

“Marie-Paule Kieny, assistant director-general of the World Health Organization, said she hopes that work to produce more of the medication developed by a small San Diego biopharmaceutical company, as well as other drugs, could result in wider availability sometime late in 2014–perhaps between November and January of 2015.”
