New FBI Facial Recognition System Ripe For Abuse

September 16, 2014 – Welcome to the Voices of Liberty Show with Dr. Ron Paul.

Today we discuss the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) launch of a national facial recognition system.

The FBI has fully rolled out a new biometric identification system that includes facial recognition technology. It is designed to replace the FBI’s fingerprint system.

The system includes two databases – one that provides ongoing notifications of any criminal history of specific individuals, and another that provides law enforcement image searching capabilities.

More than 18,000 law enforcement agencies and other authorized criminal justice partners across the country will have access to the system 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, according to a recent article on MyFoxNY.com.

From the audio show:

“I think the excessive use of fingerprints and everything that they do is also a threat. But this is another step in an other direction, just more room for more abuse and more control over the people. This is not a move toward liberty. This is not a move for the restraint of government. This is a move in the wrong direction of big government surveillance over the people.”

Do you feel that this transition from fingerprinting to facial recognition is harmful to our freedom?
