December 17, 2015—Diplomacy isn’t reported with the same gusto as warmongering. Witness CNN reporting on Russian President Vladimir Putin lauding Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump:
“He is a brilliant and talented person without a doubt, but it is not our right to identify his virtue. It is the prerogative of US voters. He is the absolute leader in the presidential race, as we see,” Putin said.
Noting translations are often problematic, don’t miss the double entendre in calling Trump, who has been labeled a fascist, “the absolute leader.”
“On domestic politics, his manner of speaking, what he employs to raise his popularity— it’s not our concern to evaluate his work” Putin said, adding, “He says that he wants a different level of relations, tighter and deeper relations with Russia. How can we not welcome that? Of course we welcome it.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump seems to be a bit more relaxed since his poll numbers climbed even higher after proposing a ban on Muslim immigration. He was noticeably less offensive during the December 15 debate, and last night appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he sportingly spectated his own defamation:
