April 22, 2016—Jacob Hornberger, president of the Future of Freedom Foundation, thinks Bernie Sanders has one last chance to make a difference.
The news media is reporting that Bernie Sanders intends to target the African-American vote in what obviously are the waning days of his campaign. Isn’t it a little late for that? Isn’t that something he should have done a long time ago?
And what’s interesting is how he plans to go about doing this. He is buying television commercials featuring himself with famous African-Americans and talking about his civil rights record. I mean, even Clinton can do that.
Now is the time for Bernie to do something meaningful, substantive, rather than just talking about Clinton’s speeches before Wall Street. He could attack the entire War on Drugs. This evil, immoral, and destructive government system that has really fallen disproportionately on African-Americans, the incarceration rates, the sentencing disparities, the robberies of African-Americans on the highways of America by the police and the DEA.
Bernie, this is your chance to really go after the system. What do you have to lose? Expose it for what it is, this evil, immoral, and destructive government program, and racist government program. Talk about Tulia, Texas too, where they sent away so many blacks to the penitentiary on fraudulent charges. Here is your chance, Bernie. Go after the drug war. It would be the greatest thing you could ever do for African-Americans. It would be the greatest thing you would ever be doing for America.
