June 20, 2016—In under two minutes, Jacob Hornberger, president of the Future of Freedom Foundation, soothes those “feeling the Bern” with some truths about socialism and politics.
Bernie Sanders supporters are feeling both despondent and angry over the possibility that Sanders might go ahead and endorse Hillary Clinton for president. They’re feeling betrayed, because they feel that Clinton might not be willing to go after the 1% the same way that Sanders would take away their money, and I suppose they’re alluding to the fact that Clinton got those enormously high speaking fees from those Wall Street firms, and therefore, might be reluctant to go ahead and take away their money if she’s elected president.
The Sanders supporters don’t need to worry. Clinton is as much a socialist as Sanders is. She believes in free everything, provided by the government. The two main goals of the Sanders people are universal health care, free government-provided health care, and free college education as if it’s really free. But these are the things that both Clinton and Sanders would love to see.
What they don’t recognize, though, is that when you have all these government freebies, the dole society, you end up with a society that’s very impoverished. Look at Venezuela. It’s in economic chaos. It’s free everything, government-provided. That’s their model, Clinton and Sanders.
The only way that you can have a free, prosperous, harmonious society is if you have a society where people are not succumbing to the great sins of envy and covetousness and political stealing, a society in which people are free to keep everything they earn and then decide for themselves what to do with it.
When you have that kind of society, the standard of living for everyone, 1%, middle, and those at the bottom of the economic ladder are soaring. That’s because God has created a consistent universe, one in which moral means accomplish good ends.
